What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a simple procedure that uses a hand controlled device with fine needles to penetrate the outer layer of skin to create a controlled micro-channel injury. This injury to the skin will stimulate your body’s natural response to heal which will produce new collagen and elastin.

The newly produced collagen will help to rejuvenate your skin by plumping fine lines. This results in improvement of the texture and tone of your skin by minimizing wrinkles, scars and stretch marks. Microneedling is not limited to the face and can be used on many other body parts such as arms, legs, neck, back, hands and abdomen. Each microneedling session generally takes 30 minutes.

Directly following a treatment your skin will appear a little bit red — as if it were lightly sunburned, but your skin will return to normal within a couple of days. The natural growth of collagen does not happen instantly; it will take place over the next month or so.

How many treatments does it take?

The number of treatments will depend on a few things:

  • The results you want to achieve.
  • Which part of the body treatment is being performed on.
  • The severity of the condition being treated
  • Your skin’s response to the treatment

Depending on these things your treatment plan may require four to eight treatment sessions.

Please note that all treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to ensure the health and safety of your skin. The risks involved in microneedling treatments are minimal. After a treatment, dry skin or red discoloration may occur, which will typically subside within a week.
