Understanding Medical vs. Vision Insurance
Many patients are unsure whether they should use their medical insurance or vision plan. In general, the type of appointment determines which insurance is billed.
If you are being evaluated or treated for a medical eye condition such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye disease, eyelid disorders, retinal problems, corneal disease, or an eye injury, your visit is typically billed through your medical insurance.
Routine vision exams for updating eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions are generally covered under a vision insurance plan. We do not accept vision insurance. If a refraction is requested during a medical visit, the fee is $50 self-pay. If a contact lens fitting is performed during a medical visit, these services may not be covered by medical insurance and may involve an additional fee.
